Sidewalks

Can we isolate those who are sick?

If they are sick enough, surely for the good of mankind they must be separated? Its sound logic. The humanitarian decision. We separate lions from poachers, refugees from disaster, and the sick from the healthy. Desks can be cluttered and messy but lives don’t have to be. The healthy live and the sick die. The old die and the young grow old. Death is nature and humanity simply walks around it on our safe sidewalks, constructed to keep the two separate for as long as possible. We look for dirty footprints on the concrete and avoid the one making the mess.

I would rather die,
with knees stained green by the grass,
than live cold and clean.
