A Year of Poems – Day 198

He laughed when he was baptized.
The incongruity of water on his Sunday best,
Thoughts of summer water fights at war with Sunday solemnity –
He knows the significance of today,
And yet how could he know and so he laughs.
The water soaks into his chest.
Why shouldn’t he laugh?
