A Year of Poems – Day 152

Cold air and a colder heart
locked up with the freeze-dried fruit
shrink-wrapped and tied in plastic.

This is the produce of heat,
welling up in silky fruit
only to blow like webs in the breeze.

Rejoice in refrigeration
for it saves summer’s zest,
but it reminds us that all things freeze.
