A Year of Poems – Day 135

When two people meet face to face
Each separate life cannot remain
unchanged from its fresh encounter
with the well of the other’s eyes
which always spills over secrets
that the mind may not even know.

To really know another face,
to see the story of wrinkles,
and dance with the bend of the nose
is to see what that face has not.

Such knowledge is too wonderful.
It will sweeten your own well-spring
and reflect a little glory
of another’s life, as you
walk on unaware of your own.
