A Year of Poems – Day 44

We want things whole and undivided
beauty should be pure and undefiled
like wedding white or untouched snow
an untouched beach where no one goes
But then footprints come
or fabric rips undone
trailing in the mud alone.

There is a different beauty in a patchwork quilt
which takes its scraps from this weary world
and from them stiches something new.
