A Year of Poems – Day 30

Silence reigns the kitchen floor
save tapping feet and creaking boards.
The two souls danced for several years
tapping in time, their marriage dance.
Time deafens both our tongue and ears
On the last note we will not speak
nor dance to that fluid beat deep
within our chests which will freeze.
This kitchen silence is different
It is deaf and dumb but no ice
accumulates to trip the feet
of the dancers in their decades
long march, which continues through silence.
In fact his blood begins to burn
upping the tempo till, quiet
as the leap of a babe in womb,
His hands shout out – His name is John.
